Hostiles is the story of Captain Blocker (played by Christian Bale) a Union Captain who is given the job of escorting Chief Yellow Hawk (played by Wes Studi) who is dying and is being sent to his homeland of Montana, but Captain Blocker and Chief Yellow Hawk have some bad blood between them. Begrudgingly, Captain Blocker takes the job and runs across Rosalie (played by Rosamund Pike) a woman whose family was killed by Cherokee Indians. So Rosalie joins the group and they continue to travel facing off against the Cherokee and other settlers. As the journey goes on, the trail gets more deadly and the team has to come together to survive.

Hostiles is a gritty western that talks about the issues between Native Americans and Westerners. The acting is great especially Christian Bale who shows the struggle of having to not kill a man that has taken many of his men from him and having to make peace with him. Rosamund Pike also gives a very emotional performance showing the stages of grief that her character is going through throughout the film. The action is gritty and intense. The film is shot very beautifully showing off the beautiful landscapes and lush mountains of the old west. The weakness of the film is that the film is slow in some parts and also some of the side characters are bland or have no personality at all. Hostiles gets 7/10 stars.
