Recently, I had the opportunity to discuss with Superintendent Daren Sievers some of the ongoing construction around the high school. Sievers told me quite a bit about the upcoming plans for the new auditorium and music wing.
One thing he made clear was that, with much of the school’s interior remodeling completed, the primary focus for the upcoming calendar year is the auditorium and the surrounding area. Currently, the construction crew’s goal is to get the auditorium sealed before winter sets in, so that they can continue to work inside over the coming months. Also on the list of changes is a re-arrangement of several departments. The current band room will be converted into a new weight room, while the weight room becomes the new STEM department, making way for the art department to expand. The entire music department will be settling next to the new auditorium.
The timetable for all this currently projects construction continuing throughout next summer, with the music department changes finished by spring break, the auditorium complete by June 1st, and all the final touches being done by August 19th.
It will likely be a relief to driving students that 185 new parking spaces will be installed to the west of the new auditorium as well, and the former Geoman’s lot will be converted into a new JV baseball diamond, with an eventual pathway cutting across to that area.
While current seniors likely won’t see much of the finished product, other classes can take comfort in the fact that the sound of assorted power tools echoing through the halls isn’t likely to last after the 2017-18 year. Nite Crier Holiday Word Search Contest : Star
