National Hispanic Heritage Month, also known as “Mes de la Herencia Hispana” in Spanish, is the month where all Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States celebrate and praise their culture and heritage. This celebration starts September 15 to October 15th. These Latin Americans from South or Central America including Puerto Rico and any other Latino or Spanish origin, help shape the North American society and what it is today. This month is about learning the traditions and the ways Latinos contributed to our nation. The Hispanic Heritage Month falls on the day September 15th because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Another reason is, the days September 16th and 18th are the independence days of Mexico and Chile. Also, Dia de la Raza (Columbus Day) which is on October 12th falls within the 30 day period perfect for the celebration month.
