On Wednesday, May 18th, the Senior Awards night was held. It began with a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by the senior Vocal Jazz girls, and then the scholarship recognition began. First, the seniors planning on going into the military were recognized, and the recipient of the Good Citizenship Award was announced. After the Hartford Masonic scholarships and the Hartley dental scholarship were announced, Mr. Karius took the stage to honor committed and high achieving athletes for both scholarly and athletic achievements. Several more community based scholarship recipients were recognized, and then the Skills USA, Graphics club, and the elementary PBO scholarships were announced. UWWC and MPTC each honored their scholars, and the Love of the Game, Slinger Soccer, Memorial Go-Kart, SAMBA, and several other community organizations honored their scholarship recipients. Towards the end of the program, the first annual Mike Halbauer Memorial and Nicole C. Kopfmann Memorial scholarships were announced, which brought out a good deal of emotion in the crowd. To finish the ceremony, Mr. Ourada recognized the Technical and Academic Excellence scholars and called all of the 4.0 seniors onto the stage. The overall achievement of this year’s seniors is incredible, and they have earned far more scholarships than those acknowledged during the awards ceremony. Based on what they have reported to the guidance office, the class of 2016 has earned a whopping $1,456,950 in scholarships for their post-secondary endeavors. Keep up the great work seniors, and best of luck!
