Captain Marvel is a trainee under Kree regiment on a mission to recover intelligence. In midst of battle, Marvel is captured and taken aboard the spaceship of the Skrull faction, a deceptive and hostile race of creatures battling against the Kree. Upon escape, Marvel lands on Earth only to rediscover her past life from her findings. With a clearer view of the situation, Marvel teams with the Skrull to fight off the tyrannical Kree and uses her abilities to their true potential.
This movie has a lot of good messages for the audience to consider. Throughout the movie, there are many instances where Captain Marvel is knocked down, but when she is being told by the supreme intelligence to give up, she breaks free and escapes once more to help her allies. This scene shows how important it is for humanity to stand up against evil-doers, even when the odds are against us. No matter how difficult the situation, one must keep moving forward. Another theme is the theme of morality over punctuality. In the movie, Captain Marvel comes to realize that the governing Kree are merciless killers only seeking their own benefit. Even after this revelation of disposition, Captain Marvel is determined to help the Skrull find a new home. Marvel is telling the audience it is never too late to do the right thing. Even though Captain Marvel was on the losing side, she still pushed for victory.
I thought that the movie was successful many areas of its development. Throughout the fight scenes, the computer generated images performed very well. As for the plot, there were a lot of unanswered questions that became fulfilled throughout the story. There were some great 90’s references including Pop-culture music, arcade games, and technology. I enjoyed the humor; it seems to appeal to all ages in that aspect. In the beginning of the movie, I thought that Marvel’s commentary throughout the fight scene seemed a little forced.
In total the plot was easy to follow. It was well rounded in terms of emotional appeal. Its use of inspiration, humor, and sadness mixed with an inspiring message fitted the film perfectly. All the characters were distinguishable and the actors all played their roles well.
With this said, I give the movie a rating of 8.5/10
