Guardians of the Galaxy is the story of a group of five misfits: Peter Quill aka Star Lord (played by Chris Pratt), an orphan from Earth that was abducted and has survived with a group of traders--called the Scavengers--that travels around space looking for items of value that they can sell, Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana), the adopted daughter of space titan Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), Drax (played by Dave Bautista) a warrior that is on mission to avenge his wife and daughter’s deaths by killing the one who murdered them, Ronan (played by Lee Pace), who wants to take out the planet Zandr that his people have a peace treaty with that he doesn’t agree with, Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) a science experiment with a cocky attribute, and his pet/muscle Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), who only says “I am Groot”. These five meet in a high security prison on charges for thievery and disturbing the peace. Peter was selling an orb when he was almost killed by Korath (played by Djimon Hounsou), the general of Ronan’s army who was sent out by Ronan to find an orb because it holds a great power. So when Korath fails, Ronan sends Gamora to get the orb, until she gets captured. Thanos’ other adopted daughter Nebula (played by Karen Gillan) is sent to get the orb. Once Ronan gets the orb, he finds out that the great power is an infinite stone that has the ability to destroy planets. So it's up to the five misfits to become the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy is something that’s fresh and brings something different to Marvel films. The acting is great, especially from Chris Pratt and the voice acting of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel--who all had great comic timing and delivery. Even wrestler/actor Dave Bautista puts in good performance as Drax, who is a brute and doesn’t understand metaphors, so the film has fun with that. The film also shows Drax’s emotional side after he summons Ronan just so that he can get his revenge, but then loses to Ronan and realizes that he was selfish for letting his rage take over without think of the consequences it will bring. The action is great and fun to watch. The set design and CGI (Computer Generated Images) are very detailed and unique. The weakness of the fim is that the villains like Ronan and Nebula are very one note and don’t have much character development compared to the heroes. Guardians of the Galaxy gets a 9.5/10.
