Gifted is the story of Frank Adler (played by Chris Evans), who repairs boats and looks after his niece Mary (played by Mckenna Grace), who’s a math prodigy like her mother. Frank sends Mary to elementary school, so that Mary can make some friends and learn how to be a kid. During class, Mary’s teacher Bonnie (played by Jenny Slate) notices that Mary can solve math problems way above her grade level and tells the principal about it. When the principal hears this, she tells Frank about a school for the gifted that Mary could go to. However, he declines because he wants Mary to be a regular kid and have a normal life. Later that day, Frank’s mother Evelyn (played by Lindsay Duncan) visits Frank and tells him that she wants Mary to go to the special school. When Frank refuses again, Evelyn turns to the courts and fights for custody of Mary.

Gifted is an emotional and relatable movie about love and family. The acting is excellent and shows the emotional situation that these characters are in. Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace have great chemistry and give very emotional performances. The film also have the characters that act like real people or kids, which helps the audience relate and become emotionally invested in the characters. The weakness of the film is that Evelyn is made to look like the “bad guy”, when she is really just trying to do what’s best for Mary. Gifted gets 8/10 stars.
