Home Alone is about eight year old Kevin (played by Macaulay Culkin) whose family is leaving for Paris during Christmas, feels like he’s being treated unfairly and wishes his family to disappear. The next morning, the family leaves for the airport, but they forgot Kevin. Kevin wakes up to find that his family has disappeared and has the time of his life. While that’s happening, two house burglars, Harry (played by Joe Pesci) and Marv (played by Daniel Stern) are going around Kevin’s neighborhood robbing houses and are after the big score, Kevin’s house. After the burglars find out that Kevin is home alone, Kevin has to suit up and defend his house.
Home Alone is a Christmas movie, which is able to combined family and comedy perfectly together. The slapstick comedy is timed perfectly and the reactions of the burglars when going through Kevin’s house is hilarious. The film also has a lot of heart with Kevin’s family trying their hardest to get back home to Kevin. The acting is great especially Macaulay Culkin that shows Kevin’s growth with having to face his fear of the basement to survive on his own against the burglars. The weakness of the film is that the burglars wouldn’t be able to survive some of Kevin’s traps. Home Alone gets 9.5/10 stars.
