Forest Floor (a poem)

Decaying leaves litter the ground

amongst the fungi and moss covered stones

all shaded by the canopy of trees

from the spotlight of the sun

that lights the landscape beyond

Creeping lichens stand stark against the trees rough grey brown bark

The sound of bird calls

permeates the air

In the distance small waves

reach for solid Earth

splashing against the sandy shore

sparkling in the bright sunlight

Beautifully blue

Matching the sky above
