With fall already in bloom, that means it’s musical time at Slinger High School and this year is no excuse. The musical this year is called Once Upon a Mattress, a comedic rendition of the classic fairy tale the Princess and the Pea. Throughout the kingdom, no one may marry until the naive Prince Dauntless (played by Senior classman Dylan Winslow) is wed, which will likely never happen because his bullheaded mother Queen Aggravain (played by Junior classman Jaden Schmidt) believes that there’s no women that is good enough for him. For each of the twelve princesses who have competed for Dauntless’ hand in marriage, the queen has devised an impossible test. To save the kingdom and his pregnant lover, Lady Larken (played by Senior classman Joelle Hackney), Sir Harry (played by Junior classman Matthew Miehl) goes on a quest to find a princess and returns with Princess Winnifred (played by Senior classman Jena Monroe) from a kingdom in the swamp. The Queen, with the help of The Wizard (played by Junior classman Riley Laetsch), creates a very special test just for the Princess Winnifred--that will hopefully get rid of her for good. That leaves the Jester (played by Junior classman Phillip Steenbekkers), the Minstrel (played by Junior classman Darius Miller), and the mute King Sextimus (played by Junior classman Brady Hattori) to help the princess pass the test to save the kingdom. Once Upon A Mattress is brought to you by the same directors behind last year’s fall musical (Seussical the Musical), Heidi and Emily Lofy.

Once Upon A Mattress is a dazzling romp that has tons of songs and dance numbers that will keep audiences of all ages amazed and entertained. Be sure to purchase tickets to see the show on the 4th, 5th, and 6th of November.
