Thor: The Dark World (2013) is the continue story of Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) son of Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) who is on a mission to keep peace in the nine realms and longs for his love Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman). While on Earth, Jane and her intern Darcy (played by Kat Dennings) find some sort of gravity fluctuation that leads Jane to a portal that leads her to the Aether. The Aether is a weapon used by the Dark Elves leaded by Malekith (played by Christopher Eccleston) to plunge the universe into darkness. While exploring the portal, Jane absorbs the Aether and develops weird powers. Thor comes to Earth and takes Jane to Asgard to figure out how to get the Aether out of Jane. While that’s going on, the Dark Elves attacks Asgard, but are stopped before they can get Jane. So Thor comes up with a plan to get the Aether out of Jane and stop Malekith with the help of his prisoner brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston). So it’s up to Thor and Loki to stop Malekith and save the world from going into darkness.
Thor: The Dark World adds to Thor and his world. The action is great showing more of Thor’s abilities and a climactic fight that’s intense and entertaining to watch. The banter between Thor and Loki is terrific and humorous at times. The looks of the different realms is magnificent and makes you feel like you’re on different worlds. The weaknesses of the film is that the side characters are sometimes annoying, the villain is bland, and the twist at the end is obvious. Thor: The Dark World gets 7.5/10 stars.
