Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series that started all the way back in 2003. This time around Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) has lost his crew, his ship, and way in life, until he’s approached by Henry Turner (played by Brenton Thwaites), the son of Will Turner (played by Orlando Bloom). Henry ask Jack for help in finding the Trident of Poseidon that has the power to break any and all curses, so that Henry can free his father. Jack agrees and Henry then goes to astrologist Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario), who is the only one that can read the map. But an old enemy of Jack’s, Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem), is out for vengeance against Jack for killing him. While roaming the seas looking for Jack, Captain Salazar comes across Captain Barbossa (played by Geoffrey Rush) who strikes a deal with Captain Salazar to find Jack if he gets to live. So it’s a race against the dead for our heroes to get to the Trident alive.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a nice addition to the series that is built on strong and funny characters, and the swash buckling action. Johnny Depp is still great as Captain Jack Sparrow, and some of the side characters like Henry and Carina are interesting and charming as well. The sets are nice and detailed. The practical and CGI (Computer Generated Images) effects look great and blend in perfectly with the film. The comedy is humorous and is decently timed. The weakness of the movie is that it lack a lot of the swordplay as compared to the other films. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales gets a 8.5/10 stars.
