The 5th Wave, by Rick Yancey, is a futuristic tale of a world nearing extinction. Aliens have destroyed nearly the whole human population. The book follows Cassie Sullivan as she navigates through the torn up remains of the planet. When Cassie unknowingly leads her brother to danger, she feels obligated to risk everything to save him. Along the way, Cassie meets many survivors. It becomes difficult for her to trust anyone as aliens had previously been disguised as humans. Eventually, she comes to meet people she can trust and works to bring her family back together again.

I enjoyed reading The 5th Wave because of the sci-fi feel of it and the complex action. I did dislike the fact that it does resemble some other similar young adult books. Overall, the book was quite enjoyable and I would recommend it.
