American Made is based on the true story of american pilot Barry Seal (played by Tom Cruise) who is recruited by CIA officer Schafer (played by Domhnall Gleeson) to take photos of communist bases in South Africa, which leads him to then be recruited by the Medellin Cartel. The Medellin Cartel wants Barry to deliver their drugs into Florida, so that they can expand their empire and in the end Barry will be paid. Barry does the job and deliver the drugs, but when he returns back for his payment, the police arrive and put the crew in jail. While the Cartel gets out, Barry is stuck in jail, but is offered another job by Schafer to deliver weapons to Contras in Nicaragua. When Barry sees that the Contras aren’t interested in war, the Cartel say that they will pay Barry to smuggle the weapons to them and he will deliver their product to the state, while avoiding state authority. Later, Schafer’s program is shut down and Barry is arrested for smuggling, but Barry is then released because the White House wants to use Barry to shut down the Medellin Cartel. Barry does the job and takes pictures of the Cartel moving drugs into his plane. When the photos are release on TV, Barry’s face is seen by the Cartel, which means that Barry is marked for death by the Cartel.

American Made is a thrilling, fun, and interesting movie. The acting is great especially from Tom Cruise, who plays a man that is way over his head and did all the flying scenes by himself. The story is interesting with seeing all the different events that Barry Seal went through during his time working with the CIA and the Medellin Cartel. The weakness of the film is that the film doesn’t go into a lot of detail about his family and his relationship with them. American Made gets 9.5/10 stars.
