Wishes on a Summer Night

I watched the sunset glow behind the hill

the trees silhouetted in front of the light

The colors blended like paint on an artist’s palette

The heat of the mid summer day fading

as the darkness overtook the landscape

The sun slowly disappeared

falling off the edge of the landscape

to light someone else’s day

A star appeared in the sky a splatter of paint

and the wind whispered past

Carrying with it the wishes of many

Gradually the others blinked into existence

Their slight glow and the light of the moon

the only illumination

Orion chases his prey

Eternally through the sky

A meteor streaked through the sky

Their beauty lasted only seconds

Before disappearing

Consumed by the atmosphere

Forever imprinted

on the brains of those watching
